Puthiya Kural Radio broadcasts from Scarborough to Tamil Canadians in every province — a digital station started by a broadcaster who spent twenty years on air in Sri Lanka before he started one here.

Fahath A. Majeed began where a lot of Tamil broadcasters begin — in a Colombo studio, reading the request slips at Shakthi FM as a young radio jockey. Two decades later he has worked across most of the Tamil newsrooms and music desks in Sri Lanka, on radio and on television.
After Shakthi FM came presenting and production work at Alai FM and Velicham FM, then a move into television with Shakthi TV, Dan TV and ITN Vasantham TV, along with contributions to international Tamil channels. Music shows, breakfast news, phone-ins, outside broadcasts, studio anchoring — the whole trade, learned in the places where Tamil broadcasting is done at national scale.
He brought that to Canada and found the same audience with none of the same infrastructure: hundreds of thousands of Tamil speakers spread from Scarborough to Surrey, most of them out of range of any Tamil signal. Puthiya Kural Radio is his answer to that — a digital station with no transmitter and therefore no border, carrying Tamil music, news and talk to anyone in the country with a phone.
A radio licence covers a city. A stream covers a country. Tamil families here are spread across all of it, so that is the station we built.

Puthiya Kural Radio is part of Puthiya Kural Canada, the Tamil newspaper published in Scarborough. Same newsroom, same community, one on paper and one on air.
No subscription, no sign-up and no ads interrupting the music. The station is paid for by Tamil businesses, not by your attention.
Programming in Tamil for the people who grew up in it, and in English for the children and grandchildren who are still finding their way to it.
Settlement, housing, jobs, schools and legal clinics get airtime alongside the film songs, because that is what a new country actually requires.
Independent artists send us recordings and new presenters send us demos. Both get listened to, and the good ones go on air.
